 The Striduphone is a new interface for musical expression (NIME) inspired by stridulation, the sound generation method used by insects such as crickets. Their characteristic chirping sounds are produced by rubbing hardened and ridged body parts against each other.

Designed to be worn on the forearm, the Striduphone mimics this process, combining mechanical and digital sound synthesis. Through playing and listening, it deepens our relation to and understanding of the more-than-human world.


Showcased at Aalto Media Lab's 30th anniversary exhibition 2024 in Espoo (FI).

Live performance at the Avara Festival x OAMK Sound Hack 2025 in Oulu (FI).
