Striduphone

Striduphone
2024
electronics, shin guard, 3D printed case

The Striduphone is a new interface for musical expression (NIME) inspired by stridulation, a sound generation technique used by insects, such as crickets. Insects produce their characteristic chirping sounds by rubbing hardened and ridged body parts against each other. Designed to be worn on the forearm, the Striduphone uses biomimicry to recreate this process, combining mechanical and digital sound synthesis, aiming to deepen our connection with non-humans.

Showcased at the Aalto Media Lab's 30th anniversary exhibition 2024 in Espoo, (FI).

Live performance at the Avara Festival x OAMK Sound Hack 2025 in Oulu, (FI).
