A
glass candleholder, transformed into a speaker using an exciter, holds a
burning beeswax candle. As the candle drips, the objects begin to
resonate as they are gradually being shaped by layers of melting wax
that shift the sound.
What do we create in times of global crisis? Lighting
a candle as a ritual may offer comfort in chaos or remembrance during
grief, but it may also set things on fire and burn them down. The piece provides an introspective listening space to reflect on the fragility of the systemic foundations we rely upon.
The composition is based on the resonant frequencies of the glass, creating a microtonal system defined by the material itself.
Showcased at the
Mediums and Materials exhibition 2025 at BETA-space gallery in Espoo, (FI).
